Former Meadowbrook Pork Plant Expands Operations

The Rantoul, IL, pork processing plant operated by Rantoul Foods is adding five loading docks and a $1.8 million cooling unit to meet production needs, according to a report in the Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette.
The plant at the former Meadowbrook Farms site processes about 4,000 hogs daily and employs about 300 people operating in one shift.
Trim-Rite Inc. purchased the 129,000-sq.-ft. facility in September 2010. The farmer-owned cooperative of more than 100 members run by Meadowbrook Farms opened its doors in 2004 and shut down in early 2009 due to financial constraints.
The company produces a wide range of pork products made to customer specifications and the products are delivered fresh or frozen to customers depending on their needs.
The company buys from a wide range of pork producers, both small and large.
