Baysinger loses battle to cancer

Dr. Angela Baysinger was president of AASV and lead of North American Animal Welfare for Merck Animal Health.

The Association of American Swine Veterinarians (AASV) has announced that president Dr. Angela Baysinger of Bruning, Neb., passed away March 8 after a valiant battle with stomach cancer. She was 57 years old and passed peacefully at home with her husband and their sons Sam and Isaac by her side.

Baysinger, North American Animal Welfare Lead for all species for Merck Animal Health, was installed as president of AASV on Feb.  27 during the association's 55th Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tenn.
Baysinger completed her undergraduate studies in animal science and her DVM (1992) at the University of Missouri. She received an MS in epidemiology from the University of Nebraska.
Additionally, she received an MS in international animal welfare, ethics, and law in December of 2021 from the University of Edinburgh, partially funded by the AASV Alex Hogg Memorial Scholarship. She was honored with the AASV Meritorious Service Award in 2021 and delivered the prestigious Howard Dunne lecture in 2022. She has served on multiple AASV committees as a member and chair and on the AASV Board of Directors representing District 8.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ohiowa Auditorium in Ohiowa, Neb. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 13 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva, Neb. Graveside Services will be conducted following the Funeral Service in the Ohiowa Public Cemetery in Ohiowa. Memorials are to be directed to the family to be designated at a later date in Angela's honor.
