PORK 101 Program Scheduled For Texas A&M University

May 22nd - 24th, 2012 - College Station, TX

PORK 101 will be held May 22-24, 2012 at Texas A&M University, according to the American Meat Science Association (AMSA). The three-day course is hosted by AMSA in cooperation with the National Pork Board.

PORK 101 attendees will learn about the value differences in swine, pork carcasses and processed pork products from meat science faculty and AMSA members. The hands-on course gives people the opportunity to participate in the selection, evaluation and fabrication of pork carcasses. Participants will also prepare and sample products from pork carcasses including pumped loins, bacon, hams and sausage.

Pork Management Conference Planned for Late June in Georgia

June 19th - 22nd, 2012 - Savannah, GA

 

Owners, growers, controllers, lenders, accountants, risk managers and CFOs are all invited to learn more about the financial issues, trends and future challenges to address, while networking with industry leaders and creating a vision for the pork industry.

Chris Novak, CEO, National Pork Board, kicks off the morning session June 20 with an update of the Pork Checkoff from Pork. Be Inspired data, U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance, the proposed Fair Oaks Pig Adventure Center in Indiana, Pork Quality Assurance Plus verification results and We Care.

Dallas Hockman, National Pork Producers Council, provides a legislative/regulatory update from Washington, DC.

A look at the political landscape and a global economic outlook conclude the morning sessions, following by lunch and an afternoon golf outing.

The conference opens June 21 with an optional 6 a.m. producer roundtable, followed by three producers discussing protecting the farm business including Country View Family Farms, Murphy-Brown, Iowa Select Farms and Bill Winkelman, National Pork Board.

Coverage of farm security, animal care and the fallout from the MF Global financial meltdown round out the morning presentations.

Concurrent afternoon sessions provide a tax update, property risk management, hiring and retaining the right people, pens vs. stalls, accounting, teambuilding on the farm, reducing opportunity cost risk, nutrition economics and grain outlook.

The final session the morning of June 22 covers market outlook, capital investment and a lender panel discussion.

2012 North American Manure Expo Comes to Wisconsin Aug. 22

Wednesday, August 22, 2012 - Prairie du Sac, WI

The 2012 North American Manure Expo will focus on "Professional Manure Management" and will include commercial field demonstrations showcasing manure application technology. Hands-on product and safety presentations, educational sessions and commercial vendor displays will also be a part of the day. The event is presented by the Professional Nutrient Applicators Association of Wisconsin, University of Wisconsin Extension Nutrient Management Team and USDA Dairy Forage Research Center.  The North American Manure Expo is supported in part by a consortium of land grant universitities and conservation agencies from across the United States. 

Minnesota Nutrition Conference Scheduled Sept. 18-19

September 18th - 19th, 2012 - Owatonna, MN

 

The 73rd Minnesota Nutrition Conference is scheduled for September 18-19, 2012, at the Holiday Inn in Owatonna, MN.  The Minnesota Nutrition Conference is a forum for feed industry professionals to update their knowledge of beef, dairy, poultry, swine and equine nutrition, and to learn about current research being conducted at the University of Minnesota.  Topics of this year's conference will focus on the theme, "Feed Efficiency Challenges".
 
Danisco is proud to sponsor this year's Pre-conference Symposium, "Improving Utilization of Feed".  The symposium will provide information on the use of new feeding technologies and concepts including applications and uses of feed enzymes, anti-nutrients, substrates, gut health, and microflora-host interactions.
 
Alltech is hosting an evening reception again this year.  Last year's reception by Alltech was a huge success and very popular among conference participants.
