Iowa State University Swine Extension Veterinarian James McKean received the National Institute for Animal Agriculture (NIAA) President’s Award during the organization’s annual conference, March 27-28 in Denver. The President’s Award recognizes exemplary leadership and dedication to the organization’s goals and programs.
McKean recently co-chaired the NIAA’s Global Animal Health, Food Security and Trade Council. “A visionary with a brilliant mind, Dr. McKean encourages others to think beyond what is visible and challenging,” says Scott Stuart, NIAA managing director. “His way of being liberates others to feel free to share their true thoughts, beliefs and ideas without fear of concern or ridicule.”
McKean, who has served Iowa State University as swine Extension veterinarian for more than three decades, is a long-time member of NIAA and has been active in the organization on many fronts.
NIAA is a non-profit, membership-driven organization that unites and advances all species of animal agriculture. Most notably, the organization is dedicated to programs that work towards the eradication of diseases that pose risk to the health of animals, wildlife and humans; promotes a safe and wholesome food supply, and promotes best practices in environmental stewardship, animal health and well-being. NIAA membership includes farmers, ranchers, veterinarians, scientists, state and federal officials and business leaders.
