Iowa has reached Stage V status in the National Pseudorabies (PRV) Eradication Program, and has now been declared PRV-free, according to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and the Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA).

Pennsylvania, Florida and Texas remain in Stage IV (surveillance).

The commercial U.S. swine herd could be declared free of PRV one year after all states have completed the requirements for Stage V.

The unknown factor is just how much PRV there is in the feral (wild) swine population.
