New Web-based system offers support to the animal feed industry.
Cargill and Feed Management Systems (FMS) have joined forces to introduce the Pennent system, a Web-based, integrated software system designed to improve feedmill efficiency and reduce costs. The Pennent system combines Cargill's Model Mill, Maintenance Manager and Mill Audit global solutions with FMS' ability to develop and support commercial software to the animal feed industry. The system works by benchmarking a mill's internal costs and setting a cost model to help improve decision making. “This is secure, proven technology that helps ensure a mill is performing at its highest level,” says Bill Mead, global portfolio manager for Cargill Animal Nutrition. “The Pennent system is versatile enough for mills of all sizes. It's a great tool to help ensure a mill is as productive and cost-effective as possible.” For more information, visit www.pennent.com.
Westendorf Manufacturing introduces the Snow Scraper, a durable snow pusher that has the capability of clearing more snow, ice or slush faster than a traditional bucket or blade. The Snow Scraper can also be used to clear feedlots of manure or parking lots of mud from flooding, and push grain piles. The fully welded structure is made with high-strength steel. The design provides balanced distribution of force to maintain the power of the tractor and loader while working. The smooth, rib-free blade keeps material from sticking to the surface and is curved to roll material forward. The hardened steel cutting edge breaks up hard-packed snow and ice. Angled side plates are double reinforced for stability. The Snow Scraper is compatible with skid steer and loader. It comes in 8 to 12-ft. sizes with 46 to 80-cu. ft. capacity. For more information, visit the company website at www.loaders.com.
Cotran Corp. introduces a new digital thermometer that is specifically designed for use in large animals. It has a 10-second read time. Total length is 9 in., with a 5-in. probe and a rounded tip. It reads accurately and comes with a wide and easy-to-read display window. Two models are available for oral and rectal use; one reads in centigrade and the other in Fahrenheit. Smaller probes for pets and smaller animals will be offered in the future. For more information, call toll-free (800) 345-4449 or (401) 682-1555 or go to www.cotrancorp.com.
Motomco introduces Agrid3, the only rodenticide registered by the Environmental Protection Agency for use in organic animal production, processing and storage. Agrid3 kills anticoagulant-resistant rats and mice, yet substantially reduces the risk of secondary poisoning. It contains the unique active ingredient cholecalciferol, also known as Vitamin D3. “This unique bait gives organic producers access to a top-quality rodenticide for their facilities where previously no baiting options were available,” says Kent Gutzmer, Motomco's director of sales. “Agrid3 also has a recognized stop-feed action, reducing the need for extensive and continued bait use. Rodents typically stop feeding after a day or two, which ultimately results in lower total bait consumption with greater cost savings.” Agrid3 comes in two formulations: Bait Chunx and pellets. Delays in the North American corn harvest have brought concerns over mycotoxin contamination, particularly toxins produced by fusarium molds including DON (vomitoxin), zearalenone and fusaric mold. In response, Alltech, makers of Mycosorb and Mold-Zap, have established the Mycotoxin Hotline. The hotline, in addition to the www.knowmycotoxins.com Web site, is designed to provide producers and feedmill operators a fast way to obtain answers and a centralized point of access to references and industry experts. Call the Mycotoxin Hotline toll-free at (866) 322-3484.
