The Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) expressed concern with a recent report released by the Washington, DC-based Environmental Integrity Project.

The report, “Threatening Iowa’s Future,” alleges that producers put profit ahead of environmental stewardship.

“What the report failed to point out was that Iowa environmental regulations do not currently require a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit because state law prohibits a discharge from a confinement feeding operation,” say Eldon McAfee, IPPA attorney. “The report also failed to recognize that Iowa livestock producers submit annual manure management plan updates each year.”
