A total of 79% of respondents to a survey on livestock identification said the program should be mandatory.

The 25-question survey on the new National Animal Identification System (NAIS) is being developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and state animal health agencies. The survey was sent out electronically by the National Institute for Animal Agriculture (NIAA).

About 20% of respondents said funding was their biggest concern, followed by 16.7% who were most concerned about producer participation.
