Murphy-Brown LLC, the swine production subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, Inc. at Warsaw, NC, and the North Carolina Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance (DPPEA) are offering a tool to pork producers across the U.S. to help them better protect the environment.
The free, user-friendly management tool provides an organized approach to dealing with such issues as feeding, clean-up, waste treatment systems and spray irrigation.
The environmental management system (EMS) template is similar to one that Murphy-Brown successfully developed for all of its U.S. hog operations.
Murphy-Brown’s EMS tool provides a simple, step-by-step guide to environmental management, says Don Butler, director of government relations and public affairs for Murphy-Brown.
