A clarification is necessary on the Sept. 15 story "Unique Methods to Enhance Sow Productivity".

Bruce Livingston explains that PigCHAMP records the date a sow's first litter is weaned, even if she is used as a nurse sow for another set of pigs.

At State Line Swine, sows are not considered weaned when they are used as nurse sows. This increases the percentage of sows bred by seven days and the wean-to-first-service interval. That helps Livingston achieve 93.3% sows bred by seven days and a 5.1 day wean-to-first-service interval he reports.
