Elanco Animal Health will announce an initiative to bring 100,000 families out of hunger globally by 2025 through a novel partnership with Heifer International. Jeff Simmons, Elanco president, will outline the company’s commitment to hunger both locally and globally. Elanco has already started projects with Heifer International in Indonesia and Zambia that will impact more than 8,000 families. They will unveil their third community during the briefing.
Globally, 1 in 6 people don’t get enough to eat daily. In fact, 25,000 people die each day from hunger and malnutrition. That’s equivalent to more than 60 jumbo jets falling out of the sky daily. In the United States, 1 in 5 children doesn’t get enough to eat each day. In the Indianapolis Public School system, 4 in 5 children rely on reduced or free school lunch.
Pierre Ferrari, CEO, Heifer International, will also be on hand to speak about the impact a single animal can have on families and communities in emerging economies and detail why the Elanco partnership is unique.
Hunger may be the #1 health problem in the developing world. As the population grows toward 9 billion at mid-century, food insecurity could become an increasing problem. Elanco is focused on making safe, affordable and abundant food a global reality.
