In a strong bipartisan letter, 33 senators asked their leadership to move forward with a five-year farm bill by the end of the year. The senators asked Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to consider putting the Senate-passed farm bill into any end-of-the year package. The senators said, “With each passing day, the difficulty of enacting a farm bill before the end of this congress grows. Congress must do the responsible thing and pass a full, five-year reform farm bill. Accordingly, we urge you to consider folding in the senate’s strong bipartisan bill in any end-of-year package.” The letter was spearheaded by Senators Max Baucus (D-MT) and John Hoeven (R-ND).
