A broad coalition of 235 farming, livestock, specialty crop, rural development, nutrition, conservation, trade, research, crop insurance, renewable energy and municipalities have sent a letter to the House of Representatives leadership urging them to pass a five-year farm bill to be signed into law by the end of the year. The groups said, “Failure to pass a new five-year farm bill before the year’s end will create significant budget uncertainty for the entire agricultural sector, including the rural businesses and lenders whose livelihoods are dependent upon farmers’ and livestock producers’ economic viability.” Those signing the letter included the American Association of Crop Insurers, American Farmland Trust, American Feed Industry Association, American Soybean Association, Fertilizer Institute, National Association of Wheat Growers, National Corn Growers Association, National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, National Milk Producers Federation, Pheasants Forever and the U.S. Meat Export Federation.
