An article in this week’s Washington Post takes a look at the gestation stall conversation. According to the newspaper, participants inside and outside of the pork and restaurant industries say the seemingly sudden movement to phase out gestation stalls has been coming for quite some time. Dave Warner, director of communications for the National Pork Producers Council says the Humane Society is working to confuse the public with recently released undercover videos. He says the horrific acts captured in videos are not related to gestation stalls, but instead are abuses perpetrated by poorly trained workers. The articles quotes Warner’s suggestion that the Humane Society is trying to combine the acts committed by abusive employees with the gestation stall issue in the public’s mind in order to help eliminate gestation stalls.
