Poage Inducted into Hall of Fame

The Texas Pork Producers Association recently inducted Roy Poage of Coleman, TX, into the Texas Pork Hall of Fame.

A plaque in Poage’s honor will be placed in the Kleberg Animal Science Building at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX.

Poage is a 1959 graduate of Texas Tech University at Lubbock, TX. In 1961, he and the late T. Euel Liner of Lubbock founded Lubbock Swine Breeders that was later expanded to include sales of the entire production package, which became known as the “Lubbock System.” Lubbock Swine Breeders merged with DeKalb Swine Breeders in 1972. Poage became president and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1998.

During his long career, Poage provided leadership in many organizations. He served as president of both the Texas Pork Producers Association and the Oklahoma Pork Producers Association, was the 1970 Texas Pork All-American and the 1971 Texas Master Pork Producer.
