October Scenario released for Pfizer Animal Health’s “Virtual Walk the Pens” Simulator

Fallouts and Diarrhea in the Virtual Barn

New York (Oct.1, 2009)—Pfizer Animal Health announces the next “Virtual Walk the Pens” simulator scenario. The fifth scenario, available at www.individualpigcare.com/WTPGame, presents a barn full of fallouts and pigs with diarrhea. As reported by a virtual co-worker, there is extreme variation in the hogs as well. The virtual barn is going to take a hit on profitability and it’s up to the player to fix it. Players must determine the cause and stop any further death loss or fallouts to get the best score.

The simulator is an online educational tool that can be played from any standard computer and is intended to help demonstrate the importance of Individual Pig Care.

“Bringing the Virtual Barn back to profitability in this scenario will especially challenge players’ knowledge of Individual Pig Care,” says Eric Farrand, Pig Husbandry Team Manager, Pfizer Animal Health. “I’m looking forward to seeing this month’s results.”

Players can see how they measure up to the competition and check their scores on the Web site. As with previous scenarios, the virtual veterinarian is on hand to offer advice, and players are encouraged to replay the scenario to improve their scores. The 2,400-head herd is counting on them to make the right decisions, and just as in real life, each action taken makes a difference.

Individual Pig Care™ is an approach that provides for pig needs to maximize potential, producer needs for increased profitability and societal needs for a sustainable, high-quality product, raised with sound husbandry practices.
