Seminar Targets Circovirus And Feed Cost Concerns

Kansas State University Extension Swine Specialist Mike Tokach will speak on circovirus and feed costs at an informational seminar hosted by North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension Service on Aug. 8 at the Governor’s Inn and Conference Center, Casselton, ND.

Porcine circovirus-associated disease (PCVAD) affects weight gain and pig mortality, notably in the early finisher phase. High, volatile grain prices challenge producers in managing costs and profitability.

Tokach will discuss how to manage PCVAD and review options in dealing with high feed costs.

Craig Jarolimek, managing partner with North Dakota Sow Center, LLP in Forest River, will discuss progress in a new farrowing operation and investment in the state for swine production.

Dick Roth, North Dakota pork quality assurance coordinator, will explain the Pork Board’s new Pork Quality Assurance Plus program.

For more information, contact John Dhuyvetter, NDSU area livestock specialist, at (701) 857-7682.
