USDA Releases New Melamine Fact Sheet

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a new fact sheet outlining the safety and risks associated with melamine.

“There is very low risk to humans from eating pork, chicken and eggs from animals fed feeds supplemented with pet food scraps that contain melamine and related compounds, according to an assessment by federal scientists,” the fact sheet states.

The assessment, “Melamine and Analogues Safety-Risk Assessment,” was performed by scientists from five federal agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Homeland Security and the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the USDA.

The fact sheet can be accessed at http://tinyurl.com/39hh95.
