Certified Livestock Manager Training for Illinois pork producers will be conducted at several sites in early 2005, sponsored by the University of Illinois Extension.
Producers with more than 300 animal units are required to attend an approved training session or complete a written examination by the Illinois Department of Agriculture.
The thrust of state and federal regulations “is containing manure and polluted runoff and keeping clean water clean,” say Randy Fonner, University of Illinois Extension specialist. “So those are some of the issues that we’ll be talking about specifically in these workshops – manure storage and feedlot runoff.”
Swine-focus workshops in 2005 will be:
- Jan. 18 at Galesburg, IL, Knox County Extension Office (309-342-5108);
- Jan. 31 at Bloomington, IL, McLean County Farm Bureau building (309-663-8306);
- Feb. 23 at Nashville, IL, Washington County Extension Office (618-327-8881); and
- March 2 at Mt. Carroll, IL, Carroll County Farm Bureau building (815-244-9444).
