The most up-to-date financial information for the pork industry is offered at the 2004 Financial Management Conference July 18-21 at the Marriott Beach & Golf Resort in Hilton Head, SC.

During the conference, economists will review the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) mandatory price reporting system. Mike Lynch of USDA will explore history and current practices, while other presentations will cover benchmarking production statistics, new business ventures and a pork checkoff update.

Two panels are planned, one on genetic improvement and a second featuring perspectives of four packer representatives.

Covered in concurrent sessions will be packer contracts, consumer perspectives, economic baselines, animal welfare and what’s available on the Internet.

A second set of concurrent sessions will focus on the national air emissions study, a review of a beef operation, worker’s compensation and other hot topics.

A brochure with registration information is available on the Internet at www.porkboard.org or by calling the Pork Checkoff Service Center at 800-456-7675.
