The National Pork Board approved its 2004 budget based on a revenue forecast of $50 million. About $10.5 million will be returned to states. The remainder will be spent for national promotion, research and consumer information programs.
“The budgeting process started with a strategic plan,” says Craig Christensen, Pork Board president from Ogden, IA. “The 2004 strategic planning process was a forward-looking effort to ensure that the checkoff is invested in programs that best meet the current needs of pork producers.”
The pork board approved a $45.7 million budget, which includes about $12 million for new initiatives. “Many of the new programs and initiatives for 2004 reflect a commitment to providing science-based answers,” notes Christensen.
