New rules that include a "look but don’t touch" policy could result in cancellation of farm shows in the United Kingdom this year.

Government officials insist the tough biosecurity policy is vital to prevent a reoccurrence of foot-and-mouth disease.

Farm show visitors will be forbidden to pat pigs, cattle or llamas. Sheep are prohibited from being shown.

Manure requirements are a particular concern. Show organizers fear they will have to hire an army to keep the poop scooped. Rules say all manure must be cleared from the soiled area and covered with sand or sawdust.

Show officials believe all the controls are unnecessary and unworkable and could lead to visitors simply staying away.
