With rising energy costs and swine health issues critical, correct swine building ventilation becomes more important than ever.

Ohio State University Extension is holding a ventilation systems workshop at The Ohio State University Animal Sciences Building in Columbus on Dec. 1, 2009.

The workshop kicks off at 1 p.m. and concludes by 4:30 p.m. Workshop participants will hear presentations on Environmental Factors and Their Effects on Pigs, Ventilation System Design Principles and Indoor Environmental Management and Understanding Ventilation Controllers.

All participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and take part in hands-on ventilation demonstrations using the ventilation systems trailer.

Hands-on activities could include:
--Measuring how many cfms of air a fan is moving;
--Demonstrating the importance of inlet opening size and air speed;
--Learning how to determine static pressure; and
--Demonstrating motor curves using the controller.
