'Saluti' from Italy

While I do a fair amount of travelling in my work, I have never had the opportunity to go “across the pond” until this week. I’m writing today’s column from Parma, Italy, where I...

Top of Mind Trade Issues

It appears that Mexico will not prohibit imports of beef, pork and poultry in combo bins. Some intense discussions between U.S. and Mexican producers, processors and government officials has apparently smoothed the rift and...

Chicken Down, Export and Domestic Markets Uncertain

As I extend belated Happy New Year wishes, I can see already that 2009 is shaping up to be another interesting one. Consider the following developments that will impact your business this year...

Hogs & Pigs Report a 'Mixed Bag'

Think COOL, Exports and Pork Quality

U.S. livestock producers should not be surprised that Canada’s beef and pork producers are trying to make lemonade out of the lemons that the U.S. mandatory country-of-origin labeling (COOL) law sent their way...

USDA Adjusts Corn Usage Forecast

USDA made some significant changes in its forecasted “usage” numbers for corn in this week’s monthly World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates. The adjustments reflect the significant changes that have occurred in...
