Deborah Murray to receive the Science in Practice Award at ’16 Leman Conference

Deborah Murray will receive the Science in Practice award at the 2016 Allen D. Leman Swine Conference to be held Sept. 17-20 in St. Paul, Minn.

Murray is the Veterinary Services manager for New Fashion Pork, in Jackson, Minn., an integrated system with 59,000 sows and markets approximately 1.4 million pigs per year. New Fashion Pork has operations in Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming, Indiana and Illinois.

In 2006 Murray graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, where she also received her Certificate in Swine Medicine. She is the 2012 recipient of the American Association of Swine Veterinarians Young Swine Veterinarian of the Year. She also completed the Executive Veterinary Program in 2016.

Murray has been with New Fashion Pork since 2007 and prior to that practiced as a mixed animal veterinarian with Marcus Remsen Veterinary Clinic in Marcus, Iowa.

Growing up on a farm in southern Minnesota enabled Murray to work with pigs, sheep and cattle and also furthered her interest in veterinary medicine at a young age. She and her husband, Will of 15 years, live in Jackson, Minn., with their son, Weston, and foster daughter, Kayla.

The Allen D. Leman Swine Conference is an annual educational event for the global swine industry. It is internationally acclaimed for bringing science-driven solutions to the complex challenges facing the industry. Each year hundreds of participants from over 20 countries attend. In addition to presentations, representatives and marketers from around the world will exhibit their products and services.
