Leading feed safety company appoints new Regulatory Manager

12th October 2009

Anitox, a global provider of products for bacterial pathogen and mould control and programs for improving milling efficiency in the animal feed and primary meat, egg and fish production industries, has appointed Dr Lin Wylie to the position of Regulatory Manager as part of its international expansion in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Dr Wylie’s responsibilities initially include the registration/re-registration of new/existing compounds and products to comply with new European Union Feed Regulations which will come into force in 2010 and also registration of existing EU biocidal products, together with product registrations in new markets throughout the world. In addition, her strong technical background, particularly in poultry, will provide the company with a valuable knowledge resource.

Having gained a BSc in Animal Sciences at Leeds University in 1994, Dr Wylie went on to achieve an MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare at Edinburgh University, then a PhD at the Roslin Institute. Dr Wylie subsequently spent six years as Technical Development Manager for Aviagen Ltd, a world leader in poultry breeding, before joining Anitox as Technical Manager in 2005. From 2006 to 2008 Dr Wylie was Technical Sales Manager for Kiotechagil and subsequently Scientific and Regulatory Consultant – Animal Feed & Nutrition, for Cantox Health Sciences International.

Commenting on Dr Wylie’s appointment Peter Street, Technical Director for Anitox, stated: “We are delighted that Lin has joined us at what is a very exciting time for the business. Food safety is a fast-growing issue throughout the world due to increasing legislation, changing dietary patterns and greater public health challenges. Consumers are also becoming far more aware of what they eat, which is further increasing the pressure on feed manufacturers, livestock producers and the food industry to achieve higher standards.

“Anitox is enjoying rapid and sustained growth as a result of developing its business in both existing and new markets, each of which has specific regulatory requirements. We therefore required additional skilled technical support to help us deal with the myriad of approval systems and legislation throughout global markets. Lin’s experience of regulatory affairs and feed additives provides the ideal background to fulfil this challenging position.

“Within the European Union, and countries which supply product to the 27 Member States, increasing legislation is requiring feed manufacturers and producers to comply with the appropriate regulations and to use the correct products. A key product within our range is Termin-8®, a formaldehyde-based liquid antimicrobial product developed by Anitox, which reduces Salmonella, e-coli and other bacteria in feed/feed ingredients

Demand for Termin-8, which is part of an overall feed hygiene programme provided by Anitox to the feed industry, is increasing rapidly, not only because of increasing legislation but also because the high initial capital investment, ongoing operating costs and increasingly-unacceptable carbon footprint associated with heat-treatment systems are forcing feed manufacturers to adopt more efficient, cost-effective and ‘greener’ alternatives.

With over 30 years experience in bacteriological/mould control in feeds/feed materials, Anitox now supplies many of the world’s Top 25 feed manufacturers. Since its acquisition by a leading private equity investor, The Riverside Company, in 2007 Anitox has dedicated significant resources to developing an exciting stream of innovative products and customised feed safety solutions. To ensure that livestock producers and feed manufacturers are able to meet future demands and challenges the company continues to broaden its Research and Development portfolio, creating an even more comprehensive range of pathogen control solutions, including new non-antibiotic, eco-friendly products.
