Rural Safety Conference Focuses on Manure Storage Risks

This year’s Midwest Rural Agricultural Safety and Health Conference focuses on how to put safety research into practice on the farm, particularly in the areas of manure storage and grain handling. Registration is now underway for the Nov. 14-16 conference, which will be held in Cedar Rapids, IA.

The event brings together health care professionals, agricultural professionals and engineers, farmers, media, policy makers and researchers to share knowledge and collaborate on social and behavioral changes.

Attendees can sit in on a variety of panels and lectures, several focused on confined spaces on the farm, particularly ventilation of manure storage and confined space entry. Pesticide exposure, ATV safety, and general farm safety topics round out the program.

The goal of the sessions is to outline various health and safety hazards in agriculture and help producers and professionals learn how to prevent or deal with these problems. Current research and its practical application will be shared.

Registrations are due by Nov. 9.
