Iowa’s Swine Veterinary Disease Conference Set for November
The 15th annual Swine Disease Conference for Swine Practitioners is planned for Nov. 8-9 in the Scheman Building at Iowa State University in Ames.
The first day of the conference features updates on swine influenza virus, porcine circovirus-associated disease, Actinobacillus suis and swine health reports from Europe.
The focus of the second day is on feed issues – problems of contamination (melamine), the importance of conversion to swine production and the cost of swine disease to feed efficiency.
Two talks center on disease eradication – what strategies are available, and the process of selection and implementation.
Two talks will look at truck washes – their potential for disease spread and an appraisal of biosecurity risks.
Mapping aerosol odor plumes, aerosol transmission of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) and within-herd transmission dynamics of the PRRS virus close out the program.
