It’s a fact of life that livestock farms will experience periodic mortalities. The Iowa Pork Industry Center says having a working plan to properly manage routine and emergency mortalities is vital to producer success.

 

Because each farm is different, disposal methods may vary by cost and the access to local resources, labor and environment.  In order to help producers address key considerations when developing a mortality management plan, Iowa State University Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering professor Tom Glanville has developed a website devoted to mortality composting.
