This 33rd edition of the Blueprint
series from National Hog Farmer
tackles the daunting challenge of
fighting swine respiratory disease
from farrow-to-finish.
For this task, we’ve assembled
the best authorities in the pork
industry to write about the
progress and problems in dealing
with the major vectors in the
porcine respiratory disease complex.
These include porcine reproductive
and respiratory syndrome
(PRRS), Mycoplasmal pneumonia/
Pasteurella multocida, swine
influenza virus and secondary disease
problems.
This report also includes two
stories on presentations from the
2001 Leman Swine Conference that
deal with the feasibility of eradicating
PRRS and mycoplasma.
A two-page article outlines 10
management tips producers can
put to use in their operations.
And finally, a report from
USDA’s National Animal Health
Monitoring Systems Swine
(NAHMS) 2000 survey provides
on-farm details on the prevalence
of swine respiratory diseases and
related production practices.
