Euthanasia Research Workshop Planned for Feb. 1 in Des Moines

The National Pork Board is holding a Euthanasia Research Workshop Feb. 1 from 1-5 p.m. in Des Moines, IA, at the Embassy Suites hotel.

At the meeting, attendees will learn the results of a large 2009 Pork Checkoff-funded initiative to improve existing methods and identify novel methods for humane euthanasia of swine. Six researchers from the United States and abroad will share research results and participate in audience discussion.

“This session is designed to showcase how checkoff research is working to find innovative solutions to this important industry issue. We hope to have good attendance and discussion,” says Sherrie Niekamp, director of animal welfare at the National Pork Board.

The free workshop is open to all producers and swine veterinarians but does require the return of a meeting response form for in-person or webcast attendance.
