$25,000 from Pfizer Animal Health Helps Veterinarians and Animals Affected by Colorado Wild Fires

MADISON, N.J. (November 19, 2010) -- Pfizer Animal Health has donated $25,000 through the American Veterinary Medical Foundation's (AVMF) Animal Disaster Relief and Response Fund to help the many animals, producers and veterinarians affected by the recent Colorado wild fires.

Hundreds of animals have been killed, harmed or displaced, and many of the families, producers and veterinarians caring for them also have lost their homes or livelihoods during this natural disaster. Others have generously donated their time, facilities and supplies to provide shelter or health care to these animals.

Pfizer Animal Health's donation will reimburse supplies used in the health care of animals, and will help relieve some of the costs of rehabilitating facilities and livelihoods of veterinarians and producers. This support will reduce gaps in care and provide peace of mind to veterinarians related to their patients and practices.

"Our hearts go out to all who have been affected by the Colorado fires-both animal and human," said Michael McFarland, DVM, Diplomate ABVP, and Group Director of Veterinary Medical Services & Corporate Citizenship for Pfizer Animal Health. "As a market leader, we are strongly compelled to offer relief to animals who have been harmed or displaced and the producers and veterinarians who continue to help them despite losing homes or practices in this tragedy."

Pfizer Animal Health also partnered with AVMF's Animal Disaster Relief and Response Fund to provide relief in Haiti, donating $20,000 to the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH), an organization that has treated more than 2,200 animals in Port-au-Prince and surrounding cities since January's earthquake.

"Disaster often strikes with little or no notice," said AVMF Executive Director Michael Cathey. "For animals in harm's way during tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes and other disasters, we need to make sure their advocates, health providers and animal owners are prepared."

These donations are one of many facets of Pfizer Animal Health's Commitment to Veterinarians-which offers support through training and education, research and development, and investing in the future of the veterinary profession.
